Bait-and-Switch Pricing
The ad says "$15 lockout service" or "$19 lock change." When the technician arrives, the price jumps to $150 or more. They claim the lock is "high-security" or the job is "more complex than expected." A legitimate locksmith gives you a real price range before dispatching.
Fake Local Addresses
Scam operations list dozens of fake addresses in Google Maps to appear local. Search the address. If it is a vacant lot, a UPS store, or a virtual office with no signage, the company is not local. A real locksmith has a verifiable business location or a registered mobile operation.
Drill-and-Replace
An untrained technician who cannot pick or bypass a lock will drill it out and then charge you for a new lock on top of the service call. Drilling should be the absolute last resort. A skilled locksmith can open the vast majority of residential and automotive locks without destroying them.
Phone Quote Inflation

BSIS License
