Mobile Locksmith Services in Ventura County
Our mobile locksmith van comes to you for all lock and key services across Ventura County. No shop visit, no second trip, no waiting.
Our Van Is a Full Shop
Most people picture a locksmith van as a guy with a slim jim and a ring of keys. Our van is a rolling workshop loaded with commercial-grade equipment that handles residential, automotive, and commercial work on-site. Here is what rides with us on every call.

When You Need a Mobile Locksmith
Time-Sensitive Calls

Post-Break-In Lock Replacement
After a break-in, your property is unsecured until the locks are replaced. We treat these as priority dispatches and arrive with deadbolts, reinforcement plates, and the tools to repair frame damage on the spot. Every minute matters.

Domestic Violence Lock Changes
Under California Civil Code Section 1941.5 and 1941.6, victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, or elder abuse have the right to have their locks changed. Landlords must change the locks within 24 hours of a written request, or the tenant may change them and deduct the cost from rent. We handle these calls discreetly and quickly, and we can provide documentation for the landlord or property manager.

Eviction and Lease-End Lockouts
When a tenant moves out or a lease ends, the locks need to be changed before the next tenant moves in. If the situation involves a legal eviction, California law requires a court order before locks can be changed. We coordinate with property managers to handle rekeying or lock replacement on turnover day.
Convenience Calls

New Homeowner Rekey
You have the keys the seller gave you. You do not know how many copies are floating around with old roommates, dog walkers, contractors, or neighbors. A full rekey of every exterior lock gives you the only set of working keys. We do all exterior doors in a single visit, usually under an hour.

Rental Turnover
Property managers with multiple units call us for batch rekeying between tenants. We rekey entire buildings efficiently, set up master key systems if needed, and provide a documented key inventory for the property file.

Lost or Stolen Keys
If your keys are gone and you do not know who has them, a rekey is the safe move. We change the pins in your existing locks so old keys stop working and hand you a new set before we leave.
Automotive Calls

Keys Locked in the Vehicle
We open locked cars, trucks, and SUVs using non-destructive entry tools. No scratched paint, no bent frames, no broken windows. Most vehicles are open in under 10 minutes.

Broken Key in Ignition or Door
A key snapped off in your ignition or door lock needs extraction before a replacement can be made. We extract the broken piece and cut a new key on-site. If the ignition cylinder is damaged, we replace that too.

Dead Key Fob
If your proximity key fob battery dies and you cannot start your car, we come to you with replacement batteries and test the fob on the spot. If the fob itself has failed, we can program a replacement at your location.
Commercial Calls

Employee Termination
When an employee with key access is terminated, the locks they had access to need to be rekeyed immediately. We handle same-day rekeying for offices, stockrooms, and restricted areas. If you have a master key system, we rekey only the affected change keys without disrupting the rest of the system.

After-Hours Lockout
Locked out of your business after everyone has gone home? We open commercial doors using non-destructive methods and can cut replacement keys or rekey the lock on the spot so you are not stuck again.

Panic Bar Failure
A panic bar that will not latch or release is a fire code violation and a security risk. We carry replacement parts for Von Duprin, Sargent, and Yale exit devices and repair or replace the unit on-site.

Mobile vs. Storefront Locksmith

What Mobile Handles
- Lock installation, repair, replacement, and rekeying for all residential doors
- Car key cutting, programming, and fob replacement at your vehicle
- Vehicle lockouts and broken key extraction on-site
- Commercial lock changes, panic bar repair, and door closer service
- Master key system setup and rekeying for multi-unit properties
- Smart lock installation and configuration
- Emergency lockouts for homes, cars, and businesses
- Lock reinforcement and security upgrades after break-ins

When You Might Need a Shop
- Safe cracking or safe combination changes on large vaults (some safes are too heavy for mobile service)
- Custom ornamental ironwork or decorative gate fabrication
- Major access control system installations requiring multiple days of wiring
Mobile service eliminates the overhead of a retail storefront: no lease, no front desk staff, no showroom inventory costs. That means lower prices on the same work. You are paying for the locksmith and the hardware, not the building. Our mobile service fee is built into the job price. There is no separate trip charge, no mileage add-on, and no "emergency" surcharge.
The real advantage of mobile service is context. We see your actual door, your actual lock, your actual frame. A shop locksmith rekeying a lock you removed and brought in does not see the misaligned strike plate, the worn weatherstripping, or the fact that your door frame is splitting. We see all of it and address it in the same visit.
How to Spot a Legitimate Locksmith
The locksmith industry has a well-documented scam problem. Fake companies advertise low prices online, dispatch untrained workers, and inflate the bill on-site. Here is how to avoid them and what to check before letting anyone touch your locks.
Common Scams

Bait-and-Switch Pricing
The ad says "$15 lockout service" or "$19 lock change." When the technician arrives, the price jumps to $150 or more. They claim the lock is "high-security" or the job is "more complex than expected." A legitimate locksmith gives you a real price range before dispatching.

Fake Local Addresses
Scam operations list dozens of fake addresses in Google Maps to appear local. Search the address. If it is a vacant lot, a UPS store, or a virtual office with no signage, the company is not local. A real locksmith has a verifiable business location or a registered mobile operation.

Drill-and-Replace
An untrained technician who cannot pick or bypass a lock will drill it out and then charge you for a new lock on top of the service call. Drilling should be the absolute last resort. A skilled locksmith can open the vast majority of residential and automotive locks without destroying them.

Phone Quote Inflation
The phone operator quotes a low price to get you to commit, then the technician claims "that quote did not include..." and adds charges for parts, labor, difficulty, or after-hours fees that were never mentioned. A legitimate locksmith quotes the full price upfront, including parts and labor.
What to Verify

BSIS License
In California, every locksmith must hold a Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) license. Ask for the license number and verify it at the BSIS website. No license means no legal right to perform locksmith work in California.

Proof of Insurance
A licensed locksmith carries general liability insurance. If a technician damages your door, frame, or vehicle during service, insurance covers it. Ask to see proof of insurance before work begins. If they cannot provide it, do not let them start.

Written Quote Before Work Starts
Get the price in writing (text message, email, or a written estimate at the door) before any work begins. The final bill should match the quote. If the technician wants to start before giving you a number, that is a red flag.

Marked Vehicle and Photo ID
A legitimate mobile locksmith arrives in a marked service vehicle with company branding. The technician should have a photo ID and be willing to show their BSIS pocket card. An unmarked car with no ID is a sign of a fly-by-night operation.
Tim's Locksmith Service is BSIS licensed (LCO#7134), insured through State Farm, and BBB accredited with an A+ rating. We arrive in a marked van, provide photo ID, and give you the full price before we touch a single lock. Every job gets a written receipt with our license number on it.

Coastal Hardware for Ventura County Properties
Properties within a few miles of the coast deal with salt air that corrodes standard lock hardware, hinges, and fasteners faster than inland installations. Salt spray accelerates oxidation on brass, steel, and zinc components. Springs weaken, pins stick, and cylinders bind.

What We Recommend
Stainless steel deadbolts and locksets, marine-grade stainless hinges, and corrosion-resistant strike plates. Schlage and Medeco both offer satin chrome and stainless finishes rated for coastal environments. We avoid brass and standard zinc finishes on coastal properties.

Lubrication Matters
Oil-based lubricants (including WD-40) attract salt particles and create a gummy residue inside lock cylinders. We use dry graphite or PTFE-based lubricants that do not attract moisture or salt. Coastal locks should be cleaned and lubricated annually.

What Fails First
Door closer arms, exposed hinge pins, and exterior-facing lock cylinders show corrosion first. A sticking deadbolt on a coastal property is usually salt buildup inside the cylinder, not a mechanical failure. Annual maintenance prevents most coastal lock problems before they become emergencies.

What Our Customers Say

"I locked myself out on a Sunday morning and Tim was at my door in about 25 minutes. He picked the lock without any damage, made me two spare keys, and showed me how to hide one safely. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes. Reasonable price, zero stress."

"We just bought a house and wanted all the locks rekeyed before moving in. Tim rekeyed four exterior doors and the garage entry to one key in about 45 minutes. He also pointed out that our sliding door lock was basically decorative and installed a proper auxiliary lock. Great attention to detail."

"Needed a new key fob programmed for my 2021 Hyundai Tucson. The dealer wanted $450 and a week wait. Tim came to my office parking lot, programmed the fob on the spot, and charged about half what the dealer quoted. The fob works perfectly. I will never go to the dealer for keys again."
